The masked reader

Pre-reading and reading skills starts early at Kaleidoscope and where appropriate; children attend sing and sway sessions as part of their reading curriculum. They learn stories through rhyme, music and movement.

Reading is brought to life and made fun for the children. We recently ran a 'masked reader' competition as part of World Book Day 2025 and the children loved guessing who was hiding behind the book!

For some children, we take a different approach to reading - 

"It is known that not all children learn to read or talk phonetically. Many children, often Autistics, learn to read whole words by memory and gestalt phrases to enable speech" - Sensory Classroom
